He also spoke about the difficulty of staying among the top teams: "They've won two European Cups, the World Cup and it's hard to stay on top, but now it's time for change. Now we're a mix of U21 winners, U20 players and the best Spanish players."
The defender is a demanding player and recognizes: "There's always room for improvement. Day by day you can evolve. Now I've got perfect teammates who bring out the best in me."
Lastly, the footballer confessed that he's not always played as a defender: "I played on the inside, went through midfield and finally fell back as central defender."

in September of 2011, Spain played Liechtenstein in Las Gaunas and won: 6-0 in favour of Vicente del Bosque's team in a match that mathematically qualified them for the 2012 EURO.
The team that took part in this triumph was: Casillas, Ramos (Thiago, min.55), Busquets, Albiol, Arbeloa, Xabi Alonso, Xavi (Fábregas, min.46), Iniesta, Mata, Villa and Negredo (Llorente, min.60).
Thiago made his debut with the Spanish National Team and Negredo and Villa scored two and Sergio Ramos completed the win.
Iker Casillas also shone with a quality save in the only clear chance Liechtenstein.
With the ticket conquered in Las Gaunas for the Poland and Ukraine 2012 EURO the last great success of the National Team: conquering the 2012 EURO in a spectacular 4-0 win over Italy.
This match against Liechtenstein became the precedent of the next match on October 9th in Las Gaunas against Luxembourg that would seal the ticket for the France 2012 EURO.
